Hello! Welcome to what I feel like I should call my new page/idea, where I share with you simple ways to use things that often get forgotten in the fridge in my attempt to help you reduce food waste. But it’s not new! When I first started blogging (over at blog spot as ‘Healthy Natty’ over 10 years ago… ), I used to write little text posts of ‘10 ways with’, and outline 10 simple ways you could use a food item to stop it going to waste.
So, welcome to my returning to my roots, I guess.
Today I’m starting with cream as, a few weeks ago (and about 10 times a year) you’ll find me buying far too much cream for a cake recipe ‘just in case’, only to be left with enough to keep, but not enough to make anything sweet again.
Relatable? Read on!
Let’s get started with these four incredibly simple pasta sauce recipes that can be made in 10 minutes or less by adding one, two, three or four simple ingredients to a little bit of cream..
CREAM + PESTO
Serves 2
- 4 tbsp Cream
- 2 tbsp store bought Pesto
1. Stir together in a small fry pan until well combined and heated before adding to your favourite pasta (about 200gms of spaghetti was used here).
CREAM + BLUE CHEESE + PARMESAN
Serves 2
- 1/2 a cup of Cream
- 50gms / 2 generous tbsp of Blue Cheese (you can do more if you like).
- Parmesan, to serve
1. Stir the blue cheese and cream together over low heat for 1-2 minutes or until well combined - depending on the cheese you may need to mash it a little with the back of a fork.
2. Stir through your favourite pasta (great with gnocchi) and top with parmesan cheese.
CREAM + PUMPKIN + GARLIC + BASIL
Serves 2
- 3 tbsp Cream
- 1/2 a cup of Roast Pumpkin (great way to use left over roast pumpkin)
- 1 clove of Garlic, finely chopped
- A handful of basil leaves
1. Fry the garlic in a small fry pan with a little oil until fragrant.
2. Add the cream, pumpkin and half the basil leaves. Stir until heated through.
3. Stir through your favourite pasta and top with remaining basil leaves.
CREAM + ONION + TUNA + MUSHROOMS + TOMATO PASTE
Serves 2
- 3 tbsp of Cream
- 1 diced brown Onion
- 1 cup of Mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small (90g) tin of Tuna
- 2 tbsp of Tomato Paste
1. Fry the onions in a little oil until translucent. Add the mushrooms and fry until they soften.
2. Add the tuna and tomato paste. Stir well until combined.
3. Add the cream and a splash of water, cook for 1-2 minutes before stirring through your favourite pasta.
This was so much fun to make and I really hope you enjoy the recipes as much as I enjoyed creating them.
These recipes will now live on my web site and be easily searchable under a new page, ‘Ways With’, where you can find the thumbnails of the item I’m trying to help you use up (in this case, cream!).
Until the next one,
